Mario Olivera

Mario is a Safety Coordinator with McLean Contracting Company and currently serves as the chapter secretary. Mario began his career in construction as a laborer, with McLean’s welding crew. He transitioned to safety in mid-2023. He has taken multiple courses at the Chesapeake Region Safety Council and is currently studying for his CHST exam. We asked Mario four important questions, and here is how he replied…
“As a safety professional I have the opportunity to relay information that is vital to keeping the craft workers safe. I enjoy overcoming challenges in the field because it’s not always easy but working with the project team and gaining insight from subject expect matters, we create solutions to continue prioritizing safety. “

Mitch is a Safety Manager at Structural Group, based out of Baltimore, MD. Mitch has worked in the occupational health and safety field for 7 years and holds a bachelor’s degree in occupational safety environmental health, with a minor in emergency management, from Millersville University of Pennsylvania.
Prior to his tenure at Structural, Mitch worked with Allan Myers as a Safety Technician and previously has interned with Cocciardi and Associates. Mitch is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Industrial Hygiene at Tulane University.

I am from Sykesville, Maryland, and I went to school at Slippery Rock University to study Safety Management. I started college at my local community college for a year and then went to SRU for two years. I was able to graduate with my bachelor’s degree in only 3 years of college.

The network of people that I have gained through my ASSP membership has provided me with an immense amount of support whenever I have faced a challenge in my career. I have built some really strong mentorship relationships that help to guide my career path and push me closer to achieving my career goals.
