How long you’ve been an ASSP member 2 years
How has your career benefited from ASSP membership?
The network of people that I have gained through my ASSP membership has provided me with an immense amount of support whenever I have faced a challenge in my career. I have built some really strong mentorship relationships that help to guide my career path and push me closer to achieving my career goals. In that same breath I have been able to mentor others and continue the cycle of support.
Any tips or advice for new members?
My biggest piece of advice is to get involved. We are all volunteers and understand the business that life holds. Usually, we dedicate an hour or two out of the month toward our initiatives and although it is sometimes challenging to even find an hour or two, the payoff of that investment is truly immeasurable. What you are able to dedicate into the community is returned 10-fold through knowledge sharing, supportive community, and growth opportunity. The group is truly welcoming and the first meet jitters quickly pass as you’re fully embraced into the community.
What are your hobbies?
Maybe the hobby that encompasses all my other hobbies is learning. As my grandmother likes to point out, I have always had my hands in a little bit of everything. If I have not tried a hobby yet chances are it is on the list to try, and my hobbies often shift with the shifting seasons. Since we are currently heading into fall, I am soaking up the remainder of the warm weather enjoying swimming, hiking, playing sports, and meditating.
What excites you the most right now?
We recently moved, and I am working on building a raised bed garden, deer fencing and all. I am ecstatic to have the structure in place and get some fall planting completed. My goal is that this garden will produce enough not just for my family but to be donated for other families that do not have access to fresh and healthy produce.
