Topic Legal and Safety Requirements for Digging

With so many pipes, wires, fiber optic cables, and other facilities underground, how do we prevent damage and severe hazards that may be created when digging below ground. Digging rules that apply to contractors and home owners will be discussed in this presentation provided by a Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) damage prevention expert. Keenly focused on the legal and safety requirements, Marc Haines, a long time damage prevention specialist for BGE will discuss the contractor requirements and the risk associated with digging in the earth that is cluttered with utility infrastructure that we all enjoy and need. He will also review the Maryland Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Authority that was established in 2010 by the Maryland legislature, more commonly known as the “Miss Utility” or 811 law. The Authority is a peer driven organization, that has been authorized to enforce the Miss Utility law in the form of mandatory training or fines for violators. It is time to Dig Safe Maryland.
